About us
So there I was, sitting in the Rotunda maternity hospital at 2am on Tuesday 24 April 2007 (three weeks earlier than planned but that’s another story!!) holding my beautiful, perfect, fabulous new son (who we like to call Mr Moo). Suddenly PmcSpendy, shopaholic extraordinaire, had turned into PmcMammy, or, to double-barrell it….. PmcSpendy-Mammy
As we hadn’t found out whether we were having a girl or a boy, I had brought a vast array of white clothing to hospital with me (I’m not a big fan of yellow, the other staple unisex colour) and consequently Mr Moo sported mostly white in those early days. To prevent him spending his first few weeks thinking he was a snowball or a little polar bear , I began to shop for new, more colourful clothes for my gorgeous boy. As soon as my shell-shocked post-partum body would permit me, I hit the streets of Dublin with Mr Moo in his pram in the search for some new ‘threads’. But to my dismay, despite looking everywhere (and let me assure you, when it comes to shopping I tend to leave no stone unturned!), I couldn’t find what I was looking for. Sure, if I wanted my son to look like Peter Andre or one of the boys from Blue, I had hit the jackpot. I could have bought any number of tiny waistcoats, grandfather shirts and even tweed caps. But I wanted Mr Moo to look like a baby. I wanted him to wear bright, colourful clothes which were vibrant, funky and, most importantly, comfortable. I didn’t want to dress him like some kind of uber-trendy miniature man. Also, it seemed that every children’s clothes shop that I went into had rows and rows of every kind of girls clothes and only one slightly lonely looking rail of boys clothes skulking in the corner.
Not being one to give up easily, I moved my search to my trusty friend the internet (those early breastfeeds took around an hour and a half each so I had plenty of time to surf). To my utter delight (and to the serious detriment of my credit card) I discovered that the most fabulous children’s clothes were just a click of a mouse away. Molo, Katvig, Smafolk, Ej Sikke Lei and Ida-T (to name but a few) were all producing wonderful clothes which were available online. After buying that first Molo playsuit, I was hooked.
Once I had stocked up on enough clothes for about twelve children, I started to expand my web searching to children’s books, toys, changing bags, bottles, sleeping bags, prams, basically any and all types of baby related equipment. After two and a half years of avid web-shopping, our small terraced house is now heaving with some of the most beautiful, innovative and unusual children’s paraphenalia out there.
Five and a half months ago our gorgeous little lady (now fondly known as Lollipop) arrived and along with the utter joy that she brought came the realisation that now I could shop in the girls section of all those wonderful online stores that I had found…..can life get any better than this?
I was more than happy to just search and shop for myself and my own babas but I was constantly being asked “Where’d you get that?” or “How did you find that?”. In response I would wax lyrical about this webshop or that online store, I found that I really enjoyed being able to pass on my discoveries and more often than not would send people off clutching scraps of paper with web addresses on them. Eventually, my sister, who has recently become a mother herself, and my mum persuaded me to start this site so other similar minded mums (i.e. those who don’t want to dress their newborns like they are about to audition for X-factor!) could find the amazing things that are out there and perhaps to inspire them to make their own discoveries.
So here it it, I hope you like it and find something that you like…
